OVERVIEW

Our mission at the Jefferson County Health Department is to Protect Health, Prevent Illness and Promote Wellness. We do this through two main branches: public health and environmental health.

Our public health services include education programs and clinic services. We offer many resources for maternal and childhood health along with a range of vaccinations, preventative strategies, and STD screening.

Inspection of food service establishments is one of the most well known duties associate with our environmental health services. However, we also play an important role in permits for private water and sewage systems and disease control.

This institution is an equal opportunity provider.

Common Misconceptions:

1.  We do not inspect nor condemn houses, apartments or any other structures.
2.  We do not test for, nor get rid of mold, mildew or any thing that resembles mold or mildew.
3. We do not test for rabies, nor any other animal diseases in bats, dogs or people.
4.  We do not make your neighbor clean up after his animals nor himself.

If you are unsure if we can help with your problem, do not hesitate to contact us, but please understand if we cannot directly help we will try to point you in the right direction. For any questions, please call 618-244-7134. For Public Health emergencies please contact  911.
